Thinking Out Loud #9

1.) I just realized that I titled last week’s Thinking Out Loud incorrectly. Fail, Caitlin. Good thing I remedied that today, since I’m sure you all noticed it as well. I blame it on extreme sleep deprivation. I’ll be honest…I don’t think I’m getting much more this week, but I feel less tired, so either my quality of sleep is better or I’m just getting better at functioning on less sleep. Not sure how I feel about the latter, but I am sure that I love today since it’s full of randomness thanks to Spoons ;)

2.) We got AMAZING news about Peanut yesterday. He doesn’t have to go back for treatment anytime soon and doesn’t have to go near the hospital again until April for another round of scans to check on things. The resident who spoke with the boys’ mom two weeks ago gave her incorrect information, which made things seem a lot worse than it is. He’s good for now, which is all we hoped for and more. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers over the past year, friends. It’s meant a lot, and I have no doubt they helped make the difference in this case <3

tahnk you

3.) I absolutely adored this post from yesterday. I love this lady as it is; her food is heavenly, she makes me laugh every other sentence, she was one of the first blogs I discovered and started to follow regularly three years ago, and she lives in Pittsburgh, too. If you haven’t already done so, add her to your reader, try one of her many recipes, and get ready to laugh at her daily words :)

4.) I got crafty on Tuesday night. You should all know by now (thanks to Big Kid) that arts and crafts are not my thing. I wish they were more than you know, but they just aren’t. On Tuesday, though, I noticed that there was a small hole developing in one of my favorite pairs of jeans, which made me super angry since I just bought them over the summer. Clearly, it’s not my fault for wearing them almost every day…definitely the jeans’ fault. Rather than go get another pair, however, I decided to see if I could sew it up…and sew it up I did. Can you tell that something is a little off? Of course. Do I care? Not in the slightest; in fact, I’m incredibly proud of myself for being economical and getting my craft on…and if someone takes the time to notice there’s a smidge of color wrong on the knees of my jeans, they have entirely too much time of their hands, so there.

5.) Big Kid knows me too well. And was absolutely correct.

6.) I started babysitting for my Monday night girls again this week, which was good because I missed them dearly. They give Peanut and Big Kid a run for their money in their ability to make me laugh, and I’ve known them for four years now, which has given me a wonderful opportunity to watch them grow into two amazing little people. The eldest, Maddie, introduced me to the world of the rainbow loom (very popular among the youngins these days as it turns out) and made me a friendship bracelet, so now we’re best friends for life. Highlight of my Monday…not even joking.

7.) Her younger sister, however, gave me quite a run for my money at bedtime. She calmly informed me that she would not be going to sleep until her mommy and daddy came home; “I’ll lay quietly in my bed, but I won’t go to sleep. And if you try to make me go to sleep, I’ll scream and wake up sissy.” Usually, I don’t go for threats such as that at all, but I naively thought that I could get her to go to sleep by sitting with her and gently rubbing/patting her back like I usually do….and I was entirely mistaken. Not only was she awake when her parents got home, but we were both sitting at the kitchen table when they walked in because she jumped out of bed and ran downstairs as soon as she heard the garage door go up announcing their arrival. They weren’t surprised in the least and took her up to bed as I was leaving. Abigail: 1, Caitlin: 0.

8.) Peanut is officially obsessed with cats. He finds them in anything we read, tries to jump out of my arms or his stroller anytime we see them when we’re out, and goes around saying, “Meow meow, meow meow” for hours. When you asked him what a rabbit says or he starts snuggling with a bear, he says, “Meow meow,” too. We have some work to do on animal sounds…but it’s absolutely adorable :) He will occasionally growl like an alligator from one of the games he plays on his mom’s iPad, but that is very rare and usually only happens if he’s mad at me…and then I laugh, which makes him even more mad.

love cat

9.) Have you voted for Hollie today yet?

10.) I walked into our bedroom on Monday night and found this waiting. Best anniversary surprise ever <3

11.) I cannot stop reading Sisterland, which is part of the reason for my sleep deprivation. It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up late because I can’t put a book down, but that is definitely the case with this one.

can't stop reading

12.)  Joe participated in another session of living room yoga last night, and this one was 30 minutes long. Ten minutes longer than last week, and he still handled it like a champ. Next step: 90 minutes…with Lauren ;)

yoga love

13.) Tuesday morning was one of those days where nothing goes the way I planned; both boys have colds so neither has felt particularly awesome. I thought it would be a good idea to get out of the house for a bit to get some fresh air (and also because I knew that we wouldn’t be leaving on Wednesday thanks to the snow and ice storm from Tuesday night/Wednesday morning), and their mom agreed, so we headed to one of our favorite spots where they have both a toy room that the boys can play in and a gym where they can run around. The toy room, however, was packed with children, which was overwhelming to the boys and caused some less than fun behaviors to come out, and there were classes going on in the gym, so we couldn’t use it. Fail. The three of us went home disappointed, tired, and cranky, but thankfully lunch, some cuddles and stories, and a nice long nap made us feel better.

14.) Have a wonderful rest of the day :)

Have you ever sewn something you love to make it last longer? Do you get sucked into books at the expense of sleep? What’s been your favorite memory of the week so far? Any funny pins to share?

  1. Oh girl I’m so so so happy to here about Peanut. That is really great news and I know how relieved you must feel. The girls had me laughing. These kids really do keep it interesting! The little boy I watch in the summer makes the same deals with me, and I always feel terrible when the parents come home and he ends up in the living room with me. I don’t get it- I was never able to outsmart the babysitter growing up but these kids know how to play us!

    • Great news is right :) Oh those two…I’m glad I’m not the only one who has to figure out how to handle that but I really don’t know what to do haha. I’m just glad her parents weren’t mad!

    • Ugh don’t even get me started on this lady. She’s given them incorrect information before and has been very unprofessional with them. Not a fan and neither are they, but we’re really happy with the news :)

  2. Yayyyyy! So glad to hear Peanut’s news!!!!!!! :) :) :)

And umm, reading is usually the reason I don’t get enough sleep. There are too many nights where I’m still in the living room reading and Mike comes out and looks at me like I’m crazy because he actually already fell asleep in the bedroom for a little bit and woke up and realized I wasn’t in there. Whatev.. reading is just too addicting ;)

  3. HAPPY DANCES! I haven’t read past #2 yet, but I had to scroll down to say that’s such awesome news! Okay… going back up. BRB.

Ok. Great job sewing up your jeans! I used to be really good at all things crafty, but my skills have kind of died over the years to the point where I don’t even think I remember how to sew. Heck, I don’t even have needle and thread at home  I needed something fixed a while ago and had to take it over to my mom. Fail. As for sacrificing sleep for books? YES! The Fault In Our Stars was the last one that did it to me, and it was so very worth it.

    • Yay is right :) oh good, i’m glad i’m not the only one who sews up jeans haha. I just love these and don’t want to spend $40+ on another pair :P he does indeed! Always love what he brings home!

  4. love the good news for Peanut and love the rainbow loom!! I seriously cannot wait until the girl I babysit is old enough for those kinds of crafts. we’ve been doing valentines this week which is fun but she can only put so many stickers on a sheet before she gets bored.

and the little boy and Peanut would love each other– his favorite word right now is “goggy” which is for any animal. He understands that the kitty is “kiiiiii” but often calls her goggy, too.

    • Omg I wish we could get them together!!! How sweet would they be?? Little ones and animals are just too cute :) i wish big kid liked stuff like this more haha…he’s a little young yet but i don’t think he’d like it anyway

  5. I think it is absolutely precious how much you adore your kiddos that you take care of! It’s so obvious. And I’m so glad that Peanut is doing okay… Poor little one.
haha, I was the devil child when I was being baby sat… Sorry on behalf of her. I would stay awake and even by hyper when my parents got home from a night out. Whoops. No wonder we couldn’t ever get the same sitter to come back twice! LOL! Have a fabulous Thursday beautiful!

    • Hahaha you and abigail would get along splendidly then :P she’s definitely a wild child, but we’ve always been tight, so i can’t complain. And she was quiet and didn’t wake up her sister so that’s something :P

  6. i told you sisterland is addicting. side note I am now keeping track of all the books I have read in 2014, pretty pumped to see a massive list grow. already 9 down. yay for Peanut, that makes me uber happy. so i don’t know if I ever talked about it but my group i mentor with the non profit makes bracelets for their business – so I am pretty much in full blown friendship making bracelet mode

    • It so is! That’s awesome that you’re rocking the reading! I need to step up my game haha. I’m behind! Friendship bracelets are the best…we made them all the time growing up :)

  7. So so sooo happy to hear about Peanut! That is such amazing news! I may or may not have stayed up until 1 finishing my book last night, I couldn’t put it down. I always feel weird after finishing a book, but I don’t know how to explain the feeling. Maybe a little empty? Anyways I had to turn on the TV to get my mind off the fact that I just finished a book haha I’m weird I know.

  8. Yaaaaaay! So happy to hear the good news about Peanut! :) I am TERRIBLE and arts and crafts. Art class was my biggest source of anxiety as a child hahaha that photo of that Spider-Man child cracked me UP.

  9. So YAY for the news about Peanut. I was worried that not having fallen behind on blog reading I would have missed something important with him. I was actually considering going back and rereading the old ones first… But I’m glad I didn’t :D That’s great news and in one case that you are actually happy that a medical professional “made a mistake.” Ha.

I am always worried about #1 happening with my numbered posts. So far I think I’m in the clear. Who knows though? Maybe as I go back and re-insert all of my pictures from my *brilliant* idea to go self-hosting I will find one that I numbered wrong.

My mom gave me a rainbow loom for Christmas. They are harder to use than they look ;) I think me being half dead/sick didn’t help but I spent hours trying to thread the darn thing and nothing came of it. I bet if I went back now and tried to do it when I was coherent it’d be a cinch.

    #9 Voted! #10 So sweet!

I haven’t read anything for this entire week aside from books for school because I know if I do I will get sucked in and get even less sleep than usual. Oh, and I am currently listening to the second book Scarlet on audiobook on my rides to/from school :)

    • You’re absolutely right about being glad that she was wrong…which is what I should focus on…rather than my anger at her, since she was wrong again ha. I’ll focus on the positive, though, as much as I can! I watched her make it, and my head spun haha. Guess there’s a reason I’m not crafty :P Are you enjoying Scarlet??

  10. I love rainbow loom bracelets! My students made them for me!
I love how honest the little girl was! Too cute!
Also I laughed out loud at the book ecard. When I am in a good book, Gunshow always wants to talk and I have to give him the stink eye :)

    • Oh she’s a character. I should get her and Peanut together. Peanut reminds me so much of Abigail when she was his age…I’d be in big trouble if they ever met. Joe always does that too and then he gets mad when I get mad that he’s interrupting reading time!

  11. I’m so impressed with your sewing job on your jeans! I always pass off any sewing/hemming/button repair jobs to my mom to deal with. Maybe I should grow up at some point and learn to do it myself? Haha. :P

YAY for the awesome news about Peanut! That makes me so happy!!!

  12. I have Sisterland sitting on my nightstand!! I need to turn off my computer and recommit to my reading a book 30 minutes a night instead of blogs… I’ll have to let you know what I think of it! And that Spiderman-kid meme KILLED me.

  14. My favorite memory of the week so far has been trying out my new nifty gluten free organic wildberry waffles! So glad I bought them! And yes I have been talking about them all week haha!
