Good morning, kids. How is everyone on this second to last day of the week? I’m still sick
I didn’t run yesterday, got over nine hours of sleep, and woke up feeling exactly the same as when I went to bed on Tuesday night (albeit slightly better rested). Frustration nation. If you have any suggestions as to how to make an earache disappear, I would be incredibly happy to hear them. I was hoping to be able to run today (honestly still am at the time I’m writing this post [Wednesday afternoon]), but I’ll see how I feel when my alarm goes off at 5. Yesterday was an automatic resetting till 6:30; I’m hoping to squeak out 4-5 gentle miles today, but if I’m still feeling off, then I’ll do the same….and probably be extra pouty about it. I’m working on this whole take care of myself thing (and getting a lot better!), but it still makes me cranky to not be able to do what I want…like run…and enjoy the food I’m eating. But I digress…for today’s post, I thought I’d share some random thoughts and things I’m thankful for, combining Jessie’s weekly campaign with one of my favorite things to write (read: randomness). It fits nicely with my current mental status, too. Thank you as always for hosting, girl….and thank YOU for reading
…the new scraper/brush Joe left with me on Monday. It has made the past few, snow filled days go a little more smoothly at the start when I’m cleaning my car each morning.
Having said that, I may also have cried and used potty language when I stepped outside yesterday and discovered more snow. I’m very over the whole snow thing now and would like it to start warmed up asap.
…hulu and my Roku player. I have been looking forward to the return of Smash for almost a year, and wouldn’t you know, I miss the season premier on Tuesday night because I couldn’t keep my eyes open past 8:45. Fail body. Thanks to those two things, however, my Wednesday started off with me being able to catch up, showing yet again that Joe is the best gift giver ever. Thanks babe.
Having said that, OMGGGGGGGGGGG who else watched? And what did you think?? I’m thinking I like where they’re going thus far…and that “Broadway, Here I Come” made me bawl my eyes out at 7:45 in the morning…after which, I immediately downloaded it on iTunes and added it to my running playlist. Inspiration, friends, inspiration.
…getting to check out new workouts each week with Tribesports. This is from last week, but I haven’t had a chance to post it till now. I also haven’t tried it yet thanks to the whole boy in town/training for half/getting sick thing, but it is on my list of wants in the near future.
Check out more information here
Having said that, I’ve found myself moving away from circuits over the last month towards simple running and yoga…until this week when I’ve seen a couple that look interesting. Julie, Lillian, and Allison each featured a workout yesterday that I want to try. Devon and Brandi can always be depended upon for good ones, too. We shall see how those go. Don’t be offended by any whiny comments or messages that may result from my performing said workouts…that just means they were really good.
…book recommendations from other bloggers. Amanda’s suggestion to look into The Name of the Wind after finishing Terra was spot on. And Terra had quite an ending. I’m not sure if I liked how it played out or not (I don’t want to say too much in case someone is interested in checking it out, but if you want to discuss, feel free to say something in the comments or shoot me an email), but it does make me curious as to where the series will go.
Having said that, getting to bed at a reasonable (and this week, early) hour is much more difficult these days. I can’t stop reading. This does not bode well for getting rid of whatever I have that is causing the ear ache and sore throat.
…leftovers. They have made meals much easier this week, especially since I have really felt like doing absolutely nothing after work.
Having said that, I am not allowed to get anything besides milk, turkey lunch meat, and some fresh vegetables at Trader Joe’s this Saturday. The amount of leftovers in my freezer has reached alarming proportions, and it is time (read: past time) I empty my stash. Any further recipe experimentation must wait until next weekend to occur. Except for banana bread. That needs to happen Friday night.
….a mum who calls and tells me to come home this weekend so she can take care of me. I can’t unfortunately since I’m babysitting, have a hair cut, and have a mani/pedi date with some girlfriends from work on Saturday, but I love that she asked.
Having said that, we might get to see each other on Sunday. And I am going to be epically cranky if I’m still sick during such fun activities.
…friends who understand, let me vent, and celebrate with me for all things, big and small. It’s been awhile since I’ve had that and has been wonderfully refreshing.
Having said that, I would love it if some of you moved closer to Pittsburgh (read: right next door to me). I feel like being able to see each other a lot more would be mutually beneficial. Just saying.
…the ability to move things around, so I can go home after work and sleep (or at least lay on my couch watching tv and reading until the cold meds kicked in). That’s right, friends. I didn’t go to yoga last night either, which I was very sad about, but I knew rest was what my body needed (plus the thought of numerous down dogs made my hurting head hurt even more). Hopefully that will pay off with a short run or a little yoga this morning.
Having said that, it was nice to have another night off. Busy is good, but when it starts to really affect my health and sleep, I need to take a step back for a day or two. Fingers crossed I can still reach my goal of one yoga class a week for the month of February sometime this weekend. Plus, last night I was able to make my version of Jessica’s chicken cheesesteaks (over roasted sweet potatoes rather than a bun+the last of my kale…so good) and Sally’s banana bread. And I was still in bed by 8. Win.
And that’s all I’ve got for now, kids, so have a terrific Thursday!
Have you ever found yourself with a crazy amount of frozen leftovers? Earache help? Any other workouts I should look into? Do books keep you up at night?

love the randomness as always! and i’m jealous of your roku! i really want one – since i have dvr i feel like i don’t need one but i’d still love to have one. i’m glad you’re doing such an awesome job at being nice to your body while you’re sick, but i’m hoping you’re better enough to run because i know it’s driving you a little bit crazy. although if you give me an excuse not to go out in the snow? i’m gonna take it
Ahhhhh I’m jealous of your DVR haha but JoJo says we can are getting one when he comes home in March….yay
Haha, and you know how this morning turned out, so fingers crossed I can get out there tomorrow…You’re right about going slightly crazy haha
oh reading late at night do NOT go well together- if I start a book I HAVE to finish it!
Feel better soon!
Thanks love! Glad to see I’m not alone in that haha
Awe, I hate that you are still feeling poorly
. When I had that mess, I was down nearly a week! Wish that we all lived closer to take shifts on bringing you soup and cookies
.
I wish that I could get 9 hours of sleep. Kevin and I talk up until 11:30 (my time) and I have still been getting up early. This is starting to wear on me. :/. Talking isnt going to change, so I am trying to figure out a balance. All day at work yesterday I felt run down…
You cracked me up when you said you stepped out and it was there was more snow…potty mouth and crying are always a go to reaction for me on certain things
I hope you feel better soon and finally get a run in!
That would be heavenly, and I wish you all lived closer anyway! I’m sorry you guys are on such different time zones…that makes things extra rough
Emailing you later! And those are excellent reactions to finding more snow on the ground in my mind
Feel better!! Don’t push a run if your body doesn’t want it. Spend another day in bed catching up on TV if you have to :p I am definitely kept up by books at night. Saying that I will just read one chapter turns into finishing the book. Oops. I love having leftovers, because I’m truly just very lazy at heart.
No run today, but hopefully tomorrow! Felt a ton better after that extra hour of sleep too haha…and nothing wrong with being lazy in the kitchen! My laziness or productivity completely depends on my mood….and the amount of sleep I’ve gotten hahaha
I hope you’re feeling better. And I agree with Allison- if you aren’t feeling good, don’t push those runs. It will only take longer for you to get better. I wish my mom told me to just come home random weekends. Unfortunately, that will never happen because it’s hard to justify buying a plane ticket for a weekend. Oh well… I’m so sick of the snow too! God, can’t it just be spring yet?
Ugh, agreed! Spring needs to just be here. Normally I don’t mind snow, but maybe I’m just getting over that as I get older haha. I’m sorry that your mom can’t come down for random weekends
I know I’m lucky that mine lives close.
I have a ton of stuff in my freezer too that I need to eat up since I’m moving out in April! I’ve already started trying to eat it up, but it’s going to take a while haha.
I hope you feel better soon girl!
Thanks girl! Oy, we’re moving in May, but someone doesn’t like leftovers after a day, so I have to empty the freezer myself! It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it
ugh being sick is never fun but you are being smart by resting. that is so nice to hear, I hope you wake up refreshed and ready to go but who knows maybe a rest day for precaution could be beneficial. I wish I had leftovers. Guess what, I have NOTHING in my freezer. It is bare. That is sad.
Extra rest day it was, and I’m glad I did it. Tomorrow’s run will be good! I’ll be so happy to be out, I won’t care what else is going on haha (which is good since it looks like it will be snowing again)…and that is a sad state of affairs for your freezer
I’m thinking that I’ll have to check out that book – Amanda said it was comparable to the Song of Ice and Fire series, and considering how obsessed I am with those books/the tv show/ anything to do with it I should really pick it up.
I’m slowly trying to make my way through all the stuff in my freezer – I tend to stock up. A few weeks ago, I had about 5 pounds of frozen meat and 6 pounds of chicken breasts in there…probably a little much for 2 people! I’ve almost gotten through it though.
You HAVE to read it! Seriously, sooooo good, Sam, especially if you enjoy those books (I do as well
). Way to go on getting through all your frozen stuff. I think I’ll be good to go by next weekend
Ew, I hate being sick. Rest up, though. It’s great that your taking care
I was in the same boat awhile ago and the best thing is just to sit, eat well, and sleep. Though, I’m sure you already know that.
Hope Sunday works out for you and your mom! Have a good Thursday!
Thanks love! You are definitely correct about that
Ok, prepare yourself for the all caps: I AM SO EFFING PROUD OF YOU FOR RESTING! I know it’s a massive pain in the ass, especially when you want so badly to be active and moving around — but you’re doing yourself a huge favor by waiting until you’re healthy to start running again. If you have an ear infection (totally possible, given your proximity to Peanut), running (even gently) in the cold weather is going to make it worse. So, keep up the R&R, extra sleep, and general taking it easy. Your body will thank you!
If you don’t start feeling better by Friday, you’d do well to check in with your doc and see if you need antibiotics. If you have pain in one ear and not the other, it’s worth getting it checked out. I hope you feel better soon — I’m sending lots of hugs and get-well-soon vibes from DC!
THanks love
I’m proud of me too! And I’m feeling a lot better thankfully, and I didn’t run today, which just proves that you were right and I need to keep working on the rest thing. Funny you said the Friday doc thing…that was the deadline I gave myself yesterday haha. I had an ear infection two years ago after I first started working at the preschool, and I let it go (since you know I loveeeeee the doctor) until I almost did some damage…woops. Learned my lesson, though, so I knew if it wasn’t better by tomorrow, I would be calling my doc asap!
Oh, girl, frozen leftovers rule my life. But sometimes you just want variety, you know? So then I end up making more food and have even more leftovers than I had in the first place. Bad Bethany. I also need to buy just those things and those things alone at TJ’s this week, because good HEAVENS did I go overboard on the grocery budget last week haha. I normally have $35/week to spend, more or less (just feeding myself)…this week I have $9. Whoops. Haha.
Yayyyyyyy!! I’m not the only one who fails at budgeting for food! And i like choices and variety…but i hate to waste food and then i have too much…i’ll get it right eventually
Awwwr sorry about the earache, girl. It’s been forever since I’ve had one of those so I have no idea how to help, but if it keeps on much longer, or if you feel dizzy and lightheaded, then I’d definitely get it checked out by a doctor. Ear infections are no joke! Then again, if your throat hurts too then it’s probably just some kind of cold. I remember occasions where my ear would hurt every time I swallowed, and my doctor said it’s just because everything in there was all connected. Hope you feel better soon, in any case!
Exactly! Connected is right haha which is why i haven’t been too concerned yet,..feeling better now so as long as it doesn’t feel worse tomorrow i think i’ll be ok
aww! I hope you feel better!!! I looooove banana bread, that sounds like a must-make item for the week, even if you are leftover beholden
Thanks love! And it soooo was…i <3 banana bread…cures just about anything i believe…esp when paired with chocolate
Oh my lanta – earaches are the PITS!! Seriously – I feel like you really can’t do a thing about them. They just linger and annoy you. I could go on, but I digress..
Hope you are feeling better tomorrow so you can squeeze in a run. Thats one thing I hate about feeling sick – you can’t do the things you love.
Speaking of books – The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks is epic in all ways.
Yayyyy!!! Your comment showed up
and you are absolutely correct about earaches…fingers crossed i’m still on the path to recovery to run tomorrow morning! And excellent…adding that book to my wish list as we speak
I was just going to say that I am so happy you switched to WordPress because I can now respond to your post! haha. Blogger would always eat my comments.
Silly blogger! I’m happier with the switch too
Ah, your randomness is another reason why I just adore you!! && when we move back to the states it will most likely be to VA Beach. I suggest you & joe join us there, and we can be neighbors, run on the boardwalk every morning, and not worry about too much snow
mmm that has a lovely ring to it…we shall see
Hello
This is Friday and I am hoping you are feeling better! But I am so proud of you for giving yourself a break. Sick is no fun and not a good thing to ignore. These days off will seem like nothing a few weeks from now. What is Smash about? I think my dad watches it but I am clueless as to the story of it
Ahhh Smash is a musical show about the making of a musical on broadway…much better and more adult than glee though…I love it…cast, talent, story line…all fabulous so I think you should check it out
Hope you feel better today!
thanks girl! I am
